Yoga Nidra is Sanskrit and translates to 'Yogic Sleep' but it is not the same as going to sleep. It is a state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep. In this state, participants can drop into Delta brainwaves and demonstrate all the symptoms of deep, non-REM sleep while still remaining fully conscious. Yogis say that 45 minutes of Nidra is as restorative as 3 hours of sleep because the body is so deeply relaxed and is not dreaming. All you have to do is lie back, listen, and relax. It is really that simple!
A practice of meditation is a goal that many people struggle to achieve. It can be frustrating and difficult to quiet the constant chatter of our minds and our everyday stresses. I have found one of the best ways for my clients to relax the mind and restore the body is with a guided mediation called Yoga Nidra. In this guided practice, participants can add their own intentions to create a personalized and restorative experience.
